I’m simply going to link to this blog that I found on one company using The Facebook as their company intranet.
KM Space: The Facebook as Intranet
This is fascinating to me. Social Networking is the future of our society. Look at how powerful it has become to encourage individual expression in one form or another. I think that social networking brings a sense of self-worth and ownership to the organizational culture. Does this produce results? I think we still have yet to see but I would bet my money on YES!

Thanks to E-Learning Queen for introducing me to this technology…
Right now mobile learning is just on the brink of breaking loose. Initial thoughts are the screens are too small, there’s too much limitation, not enough flexibility. Well, what about live video feed? Check out the new V-Cast Mobile TV which will allow both users to be live on either side of the mobile learning experience. We’re not just talking about “talking heads” here. We’re talking about a potentially interactive video feed. I think this technology has a lot of potential to bring mobile learning a lot further than where it’s already been.

Amazon has just come out with a reading device called Kindle which is basically an e-book reading device. You can download electronic versions of books from Amazon.com at a much lower cost then you would you in the paper form. You can also download excerpts of the books before you buy the entire version. The device is portable and can travel with you anywhere you go. Think of the possibilities for high school and college students to buy cheap, portable books!
I was reading a blog called, “Kindle, First Impressions” at timlaur.org and he explain another use for the Kindle: “Like most administrators, I have a shelf full of binders full of documents from my school district. Things such as our district administrators’ handbook, our discipline handbook, and the union contract, just to name a few. I simply emailed the PDF files to my Kindle email address and the files were sent back converted to the Kindle format. I then transfered the converted files to the Kindle via the USB cable. Now I have access to the contents of these documents and can use the Kindle’s search feature to look up information. Being able to quickly look up and reference my own content, in a small and convenient device, is the main reason I bought the device and it is proving to work as I had hoped.”
This sounds like something many professors and researchers would find useful!
Here is a description of the device I pulled off of Amazon.com:
“Three years ago, we set out to design and build an entirely new class of device—a convenient, portable reading device with the ability to wirelessly download books, blogs, magazines, and newspapers. The result is Amazon Kindle.
We designed Kindle to provide an exceptional reading experience. Thanks to electronic paper, a revolutionary new display technology, reading Kindle’s screen is as sharp and natural as reading ink on paper—and nothing like the strain and glare of a computer screen. Kindle is also easy on the fingertips. It never becomes hot and is designed for ambidextrous use so both “lefties” and “righties” can read comfortably at any angle for long periods of time.”

This technology is truly bringing the world to “real-time” information. Instead of commenting on political and breaking news events the day after it happens or even that night, you can use Cover It Live to publish your opinions as the event unfolds. Organizations could use it to broadcast information very simply and quickly. As the website puts it, “It’s not Instant Messaging. It’s Live Blogging.” I think that this means that your site will update as quickly as it would if you were simply sending an instant message. This could be a very interesting tool to use during a training course or even a Web 2.0 activity to improve performance. During an eLearning course, for example, you could them buzz real-time with a poll or a question to reflect on.
Here is the company’s description of their product: “CoveritLive’s web based software takes your next live blog to a new level. Your commentary publishes in real time like an instant message. Our ‘one-click’ publishing lets you drop polls, videos, pictures, ads and audio clips as soon as they come to mind. Comments and questions from your readers instantly appear but you control what gets published. Try our software for your next live blog. Your readers will love it.”
